The Platform Is Not the Skill

When someone is looking for a website designer, one of the first questions is often, “Do you know WordPress, Wix, or Framer?”

That question focuses on the platform instead of the skill behind the work.

WordPress, Wix, Framer, Shopify, and other website builders all serve a similar purpose. They are tools used to build a website. The buttons, menus, and features may be different, but the fundamentals do not change.

A website still needs clear navigation, readable content, a strong layout, accessibility, responsive design, and a plan for what visitors should do next.

Learning a platform matters, but knowing how to build a website matters more. When the fundamentals are there, a designer can learn the tool and use it to create something that works.
